Annotation: The aim is to make accessible the stories of people persecuted by one of the undemocratic regimes operating in Slovakia in the last century. It resulted in the Slovak-English publication of the same title Sila svedectva (“The Power of Witnessing”). The stories of persecuted people are categorized by time period into chapters, each of which contains a professional historical introduction that presents the relevant period to the reader in reasonably comprehensive manner. The main objective of the book is to present some of the important moments in Slovak history since 1938 in an educational form to both Slovak and European youth who grew up with no experience of totalitarian rule, and to provide the publication not only to schools, as supporting teaching material, but also to libraries and other public institutions.
