The application Mapka has been developed by the Slovak National Corpus Department in close cooperation with experts on dialectology. The project is aimed to present the findings of the dialectology research and make the outcomes available in a novel and engaging way.
As of March 2026, the app contains 72 recordings from 60 locations in Slovakia. The recordings come from 5 different sources. The database is continuously being updated with new recordings.
The application was provided by the Institute of the Czech National Corpus of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, developed under the project Český národní korpus No. LM2023044. The application Mapka has been customised to the Slovak dialect recordings requirements.

As of April 28, 2026, the Mapka project also includes Slepá mapka (The Blind Map)—an interactive app that offers a fun way to explore linguistic diversity of Slovakia through dialect quizzes. The Blind Map uses the same locations and recordings as the Mapka app, and its content expands alongside the Mapka app.
The application offers fixed quizzes with the same locations—ideal for schools and groups—as well as variable quizzes with randomly generated locations from specific Slovak regions or across Slovakia. The app is intended for schools, teachers, students of Slovak studies, and anyone interested in the Slovak language in its dialect forms.
